Deanne Kearney is a graduate of the MA dance program at York University, Toronto, ON with a focus on urban dance studies. She specialized in the area of Canada’s krump dance scene. Along with being classically trained in ballet and modern dance in York University's BFA dance program, Kearney is a b-girl. Kearney trained and taught for the Toronto B-Girl Movement, an artist based collective which mentors young women in hip-hop culture and breaking.
In 2015, Kearney created an urban dance theatre company entitled BreakinGround, which has produced numerous shows and choreographies from Canada’s top urban dancers. Kearney has been afforded many great writing opportunities from The Dance Current Magazine, Dance International Magazine as well as completed The National Ballet of Canada’s Emerging Dance Critics program. In the Summer of 2014, she interned with the internationally acclaimed Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival where she worked within the dance archives.
Kearney currently teaches dance to youth in different dance studios across Toronto and the GTA. Kearney has been dancing with the Badass Babes Intensive company since 2017, where she also acts as the Administrative and Marketing assistant. Kearney is also the dance critic for Mooney on Theatre.
